This lovely necklace is part of our Eterna Collection, inspired by ancient and classical designs and symbology throughout the centuries. The center pendant that is the highlight of this piece is handcrafted from clay, cured and glazed, and is an impression of one of the most famous icons of Ancient Rome: Romulus and Remus suckling the she-wolf. Romulus and Remus were the original brothers that founded Rome, and where the city got its name. Legend has it that Romulus and Remus were sons of Mars, the god of war and after being abandoned were raised by a she-wolf. Later, Romulus murdered his brother Remus in pursuit of power and became the first King and founder of Rome. You can still see sculptures and imagery of Romulus and Remus suckling the she-wolf across Rome. In my photos I have shared a picture of the ancient bronze sculpture from the Capitoline Museums, perhaps the first ever representation of the well-known legend.
